Lytes Cary Manor

Lytes Cary Manor is a National Trust property in Somerset, UK. About five hundred years back it belonged to the medieval herbalist Henry Lyte, who just happens to be an ancestor of mine.

Like any building it has been added to and modified over the ages, but you do get the feeling that parts of it are seriously old.

Whilst the inside wasn't open, we did manage to walk around the outside and the gardens, which being July, were in full bloom, and spectacular. My aunt Ingrid reckons that the gardens were the most imaginative that she has seen in any National Trust property - ever.

Like all great art, the gardens had rhythm. It was cold and drizzly when we visited, so the light was poor, and this is reflected in the quality of of the snaps below, but being there just when all the flowers were flowering was priceless.

Definitely worth a visit if you are in Somerset in summer time.
