Bristol

Bristol is a port city at the mouth of the Avon river, and conveniently close to Bath. It has something of the look and feel of Newcastle, NSW, an air of affluence, a history of technology. I'd guess it would rate highly on a quality of life index.

They built the Concorde just up the road at Filton, and down the road they built the first true ocean liner, the S.S. Great Britain.

We took the train from Bath, and hung out in Bristol for the day. Most of that centred around where the ferry took us - the city centre, and the SS Great Britain. My older cousin Colin tells me that my grandmother had some sort of connection to this vessel - part ownership of it when it was a hulk in the Falklands, or something. Wow!

The old rudder.

She rests in the dry-dock where she was built. The airconditioning system is to keep the humidity down.

Yep - another snap in front of my hero.

Caution - slippery kid.

A stroll to a little Cathedral, a cool place to sit down and eat an apple.

I'd like a tomb like this one. You want to read the inscription. Click to zoom in.
