Wells Cathedral

Wells Cathedral is a real gem, and seriously worth the visit if you find yourself in Somerset. Thanks to Gavin and Ruth for taking us.

By chance, our visit was on Sunday morning. There was a service taking place and the choir was singing. I'd like to say that the voices were skating through the pews like mist through a grove of moonlit alders on the edge of a frozen lake, or something, but Dylan Thomas I am not, so that comes across all cheesy.

Cheesy or not, walking into the cathedral to sound of the choir singing was pretty special.

Flowers were out.

The scissor or double arch.

Obligatory ceiling shot.

Obligatory Isle Aisle
shot.

Obligitory candle shot.

Obligatory kid + doorway shot.

Irvine + Irvine
Row houses.

Flowers + old stone.

I wonder if that is the headmaster's study?

An olde emblem.

The doors to the music department. I wonder if they need an extra trumpet?

Hogwarts?

This is meant to be a very special and famous old clock. If you are there at the right time, it will perform for you.

Ancient Graffiti.

I do.

I still do.

All sorts of fancy patterns here.

More Graffiti.

The man-made mountain.

Just an old barn.

English is a funny thing...

In a children's playground recently, we saw this sign (click pic to make bigger).

I told it all about the problems the world was having with pollution and how dolphins get caught in fishing nets and about how some children in Africa have never seen clean water... but it didn't open.  Obviously not depressing enough.  (Fortunately, I wasn't trapped in the playground forever, because all you had to do to get out was PRESS the button.)
